Households Experiencing Homelessness

If you are experiencing homelessness, you can apply for help with a Re-Housing application. Once you apply and get approved, we'll connect you with a Household Engagement Coach. They'll provide training sessions to walk you through your lease and Letter of Commitment, aiding in fostering a positive relationship with your housing provider and equipping you with the skills needed to become a successful renter.

If a past rental or utility debt is preventing you from finding housing, NDRH Housing Stabilization can provide assistance to clear your debt to your previous housing provider, utility provider, or collections agency. Paying off this past debt will alleviate re-housing struggles.

Once you have found stable housing, NDRH Housing Stabilization will assist with up to 6 months of rent (dependent on applicant eligibility and program rules). Throughout the duration of assistance, you will meet regularly with your coach to discuss additional resources around the state to assist with your other household needs.

Eviction Prevention

If you are facing eviction, you can seek assistance by applying for the Eviction Prevention Program. To receive assistance, your housing provider must agree to halt any eviction proceedings and be registered to accept state payments.

Once the eviction has been prevented, you could be eligible for more support if you stay engaged with your coaching sessions and continue to meet program requirements.

Housing Provider Risk Mitigation

Participating Housing Providers may be able to recover funds for damages caused renters who utilized a Letter of Commitment. To qualify, the following conditions must be met:

  • The renter must have used a Letter of Commitment to secure housing
    • All terms and conditions of the Letter of Commitment must be adhered to
  • The Housing Provider must have submitted a payment request prior to the approval of their renter's housed application
  • The damages are greater than normal wear and tear covered by the renter's security deposit
    • NDRH will cover up to $4,000 in damages
  • Documentation of damages and invoices for repairs must be provided

Additionally, Housing Providers may be able to recoup funds lost due to applicants vacating or being evicted from their approved rental. Vacancy loss refers to the costs associated with re-renting vacant units. NDRH Housing Stabilization will pay up to 1 month of vacancy loss assistance to Housing Providers with qualifying circumstances.
